Herb Millman and John Dwyer (AKA The Decoguys) have been collecting Art Deco since the 1970’s. They opened their store in New Hope with the items that they had collected over the years. As they both came from theatrical backgrounds, the style that was prevalent in so many movies, so many theatres was one that was important to them.
They were aware of the strong connection between Art Deco and Hollywood and the stage.
Since opening their store in 1996, they have written two coffee table books on art deco lighting and are currently in the process of writing a third on art deco collectibles and home accessories. After writing their first book, they were approached by the QVC network. They became QVC’s on-air lighting experts for four years. Before and after QVC, they appeared on a number of cable networks, not only promoting their books but speaking about Art Deco and its origins.
The Decoguys have also given a number of lectures for various organizations in Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Scores of articles have also been written about Cockamamie’s and Herb and John and their passion for Art Deco. All of this has led to BK Productions approaching them to do a cable show. Promotional discs were made and sent out with the hopes of being picked up by a local network.
Always evolving, Herb and John are excited about using the internet to expand their audience for telling the story of Art Deco and finding and sharing with others their passion for the style and for décor.
